Halo Highlight: Ryan Kuhlmann
“Halo Highlight” is a series of interviews showcasing our unique and talented team members. This week, we sat down with Finance Manager Ryan Kuhlmann to learn more about his role, his ideal day at work, and his go-to cup of coffee.
Tell us a little bit about your role.
While my daily responsibilities consist of accounting and finance operations, I have a pretty unique role in that I work cross functionally with different departments. I ensure compliance with accounting regulations, prepare financial statements, and oversee all phases of accounts receivables/payables and cash management. Overall, being exposed to the entire business is the most satisfying for me. I collaborate with other teams often and get to truly make an impact. The beauty of working at a startup is that we get exposed to the entire company. We are all a critical piece of the puzzle as we’re building the foundation from the ground up.
What makes you proud to work at Halo?
It’s not just the product; it’s also the mission of Halo because we’re trying to change the landscape of the healthcare industry. What makes it so great is that everyone is ready to adapt, and we believe in what we’re trying to get done. You can find talented and highly motivated people anywhere, but at Halo, our egos are checked at the door. We do not have any personal agendas, we are passionate about what we’re doing, and we have fun along the way. Everyone is truly in it together, and our culture shows that we’re all willing to do what it takes to achieve our goals.
Describe your ideal day at work.
Come into work, look at my outline of things I need to accomplish for the day and actually get through the entire list. However, this was a mindset I quickly eliminated. My ideal day now is coming in and having no idea what the day is going to bring or what projects I will be a part of but knowing that I’ll be a key contributor. It keeps the days exciting and interesting, while also getting the opportunity to learn so much along the way.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you want to go?
I consider myself a foodie and would love to experience different cuisines and cultures all over the world. I’d start with Europe and visit a few cities in Italy: Rome, Florence, and Venice.
What do you like about working in Cincinnati?
I love that all of the action is downtown! There’s something really cool about looking out the window and being able to see the riverfront, stadiums, and other buildings. We are within walking distance of so many amenities. Whether it’s a sporting event, museum, new restaurant, or a festival at Fountain Square, it seems like there is always something on the calendar.
What’s your go-to cup of coffee?
Any regular coffee, but it has to have cream and sugar. I’m also a sucker for the seasonal specialties.
What’s something your team members might not know about you?
I love cooking! Using my smoker, grilling out, and experimenting with new recipes are always good activities.
