Halo Highlight: Matt Williams

“Halo Highlight” is a series of interviews showcasing our unique and talented team members. This week, we sat down with Senior DevOps Engineer Matt Williams to learn more about the most challenging part of his role and what makes him proud to work at Halo.

Tell us a little bit about your role.

My role involves moving code our developers write through the software development life cycle and creating cloud infrastructure that runs the Halo Clinical Communication Platform™. Within the life cycle of the software, there are multiple stages that my team works on to ensure that the software is built to run well. This involves anything from testing and quality assurance to validation. Overall, I ensure that we move the code as efficiently as possible so that new features can quickly be rolled out to our customers.

What’s the most challenging part about your role?

The most challenging part about my role is probably describing what I do to other people! My main role involves connecting things to be more efficient, which includes monitoring and fighting any issues that come up during production. While I’ve worked in this area for a long time, there are different issues emerging every day, and I enjoy coming up with new solutions for these challenges.

What makes you proud to work at Halo?

What makes me proud to work at Halo is how we use our Clinical Communication Platform to fulfill the company’s core mission. Everything we’re doing helps medical practitioners focus on care rather than administrative tasks and allows them to overcome communication challenges. A team member told me that a discharge unit for surgery used Halo, and response times went from 15 minutes to four! Time equates to a lot of aspects in the medical field since it reduces costs and leads to better care.

What’s your favorite part about working at Halo?

It’s the combination of people I work with and getting to hear about the impact our product has on our users at these health facilities. While we don’t get to see it firsthand, but the Clinical Technology Team and Implementation Team always sends us emails and we’re updated at every staff meeting. At some companies, you don’t get to see this feedback loop, and it can be frustrating to not see the impact from your work. Here at Halo, we constantly get to hear how much of a difference our product is making!

What’s your go-to drink from the coffee machine?

I’m not much of a coffee drinker. If I had to choose, I’d go with hot chocolate.

What’s on your bucket list?

I’ve never been much of a “bucket list” person. I’m fortunate to be in a place where I am enjoying time with my family, I love my job, and I like where I am. However, I do plan on going out to Oregon to watch the OSU game and heading to San Francisco from there. It’d be nice to go enjoy and relive the Goonies!

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I’d probably go to Hawaii because of the beaches, and it’s a great place to see a lot of natural beauty.

If you could learn anything new, what would you like to learn?

I’d like to learn more about glassmaking. It seems like an interesting process to understand, and an intrinsic thing I enjoy is better understanding processes.

What’s on your music playlist?

My playlist is completely random! I don’t particularly follow certain genres.
