- Tech adoption is key to successful implementations of healthcare solutions
- A Halo Health study uncovered key drivers of successful implementations and factors impacting technology adoption
The healthcare industry has long been risk-averse, and this trait comes with natural consequences, especially to technology deployments. In fact, recent BCG research revealed 70% of digital transformations do not achieve their intended goals. To avoid this, healthcare leaders are best suited to focus on improving tech adoption.
Why? Because successful implementations depend on more than selecting a solution. End users need to be excited about the solution, and adopt it widely across the organization.
What impacts tech adoption?
Several factors can impact healthcare tech adoption such as implementation strategy, supported operating systems, and the tech’s perceived value and user-friendliness.
Beyond these, there are additional themes behind successful implementations that Halo Health researchers uncovered in a first-of-its-kind study.
The study included a review of 100 implementations of clinical collaboration platforms, and identified factors associated with achieving high tech adoption and clinical collaboration. High tech adoption was defined as more than five messages being sent per user, per day.
The most important factor impacting adoption was integrating the solution into end users’ existing workflows. In turn, strong adoption reinforced the solutions as a key part of the daily workflow, which increased collaboration across the organization.
Also, the study shows that an organization’s stated intentions significantly impact tech adoption and successful implementation. For example, organizations that explicitly stated a goal to coordinate care versus simply meet a HIPAA requirement saw significantly higher adoption rates.
In addition to these findings, Halo Health researchers uncovered themes specific to clinical communication.
